Taking the title and inspiration from the 19th century iconic feminist short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, One Mile’s exhibition The Yellow Wallpaper reflects and refracts the themes of isolation and repression through a modern and topical lens. In the original short story, a wife slowly goes insane under the isolating and depraved bedrest assigned by her husband. The Yellow Wallpaper in her room becomes her obsession, inspiration and downfall. Our artists in the exhibit express reactions to isolation in our pandemic times and/or convey a sense of a delightful liberating madness under the surface.

Each artist creating their own narratives on the expression of creativity in isolation, The Yellow Wallpaper features artists: Laurene Leon Boym, Jenny Brown, Lauren Cross, Elisa Hamilton, Crystalle Lacouture, Jennifer Liston Munson, Kathleen O’Hara, Keri Oldham, Jenny Ollikainen, Roberta Paul, Helena Wurzel
